The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), have launched a transforming Initiative – the SkillUp Artisans (SUPA) to train 10 million artisans.
The vision of the SkillUp Africa SUPA training initiative is to equip, educate, and certify the artisans with cutting-edge skills, leveraging technology to uphold industry benchmarks of excellence.
SUPA emerges as a strategic response to address the dearth of proficient Nigerian artisans, stemming from a societal inclination towards white-collar occupations.
At its core, SUPA stands as a holistic endeavor, designed to elevate service standards through the accreditation and licensing of artisans, thereby fostering the advancement of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Key Objectives:
1. Artisan Identification and Categorization:
– Undertake the systematic identification, registration, and classification of artisans spanning various sectors of the economy.
2. Industry 4.0 Compliant Training:
– Deliver comprehensive, Industry 4.0 compliant training programs encompassing health, safety, and specialized skills tailored to trades like carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, among others.
3. Access to Tools, Equipment, and Financing:
– Facilitate artisans’ access to essential tools, equipment, and financial resources necessary for the expansion of their trade endeavors.
4. Standardization and Certification:
– Ensure Nigerian artisans attain certification, licensing, and operate according to standardized methodologies and practices, enhancing service quality and consumer trust.
5. Facilitating Employment Opportunities:
– Empower artisans to seize employment prospects both domestically and on the global stage, thereby contributing to economic growth and international competitiveness.
