… Urges Other State Governors to Emulate Him
The founding Director-General (DG) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum and Current DG of Bukola Saraki Campaign organisation, Earl Osaro Onaiwu has given kudos to Edo state Governor, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki for increasing minimum wage of workers to 40,000 naira.
Governor Obaseki had in his May Day speech to workers announced a new minimum wage of 40,000 naira.
Addressing journalists in Benin city, Onaiwu observed that governor Obaseki increment of minimum wage from 30,000 to 40,000 naira, would help cushing the effects of high cost of living on workers.
The DG referred to the governor’s tweet on his official twitter handle @GovernorObaseki, where he states “Edo state Government is committed to the welfare of her workers at all time.
“As we all know, the minimum of N30,000 can barely sustain a family. It will be immoral and mindless of us to continue to pretend that we do not know that our workers are suffering.
“In view of the prevailing economic circumstances, I have now approved, effective this May, the agreement we reached with the Union of Pensioners that the harmonized amount would be paid from May 2022.”
While observing that Edo is the first state to increase workers salaries since the outbreak of coronavirus, the high profile politician urged other Nigerian governors to follow suit and make strategic plans in improving the living condition of workers in their respective states.
He expressed the hope that governor Obaseki would continue to meet the yearnings and aspirations of workers as he is very pro-active to issues that concern Edo workers and all those residing in the state.
Onaiwu appealed to Edo workers to reciprocate the gesture by putting in their best at their point of duties, charging them to rally and support the governor to do more in delivering the dividends of democracy to Edo people.
He congratulated the (Wake and See) Governor Godwin Obaseki, Edo Workers and the entire labour force in the country on the occasion of the Workers Day celebration.
