South Korea’s opposition party leader, Lee Jae-myung has been stabbed in the neck.
Mr. Lee, who lost the 2022 presidential election, was attack by a man during a visit to the city of Busan.
According to report, he sustained a 1cm laceration on the left side of his neck, due to the attack.
Though the intention of the 66-year-old man who attacked Mr. Lee was to kill him, doctors said the wound was not life-threatening.
The motive for the attack is however unclear.
Mr. Lee was addressing reporters at a news conference during a visit to a construction site in the port of Busan on Tuesday morning when the attacker reportedly approached him to ask for an autograph.
He then lunged forward to stab the politician with an 18cm (7in) knife which the attacker said he bought online, police said at a media briefing.
The attacker was immediately overpowered and arrested.
Mr. Lee, aged 59, currently holds a seat in Incheon in South Korea’s legislature.
