Gunmen have attacked a police checkpoint along the Abakaliki-Enugu Highway and set a police patrol van belonging on fire.
The incident occurred Thursday at the Ishieke Junction on the outskirts of Abakaliki metropolis.
TREND REPORTERS gathered that the gunmen killed one policeman and abducted another.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, however, denied knowledge of the killing or abduction of any police officer.
According to him, reports from the scene were still sketchy.
“An incident happened this morning, but I am still trying to put the details,” Ukandu stated.
