Edo Govt Donates Relief Materials to Victims of Rain Storm in Lamkpese, Akoko Edo

Edo State Government has dispatched hundreds of relief materials and food items to victims of huge rain storm disasters in several communities in Akoko-Edo, particularly in Lamkpese community.

The gesture was as a result of a huge rainstorm disasters in the locality which rendered many homeless.

Edo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Marvellous Omobayo, who coincidentally and interestingly is a full native of Lamkpese, conveyed the sympathies and materials of bedding, mattresses and bags of rice from the State Government to the victims of the rain calamity, which occurred on the night of 27th April, 2024.

A mammoth crowd of victims and supporters of the Deputy Governor welcomed and celebrated him with pump and circumstance. They screamed excitedly, saying that government had never been that prompt and proactive to the occurrence of seasonal natural disaster in the area.

Furthermore, all top functionaries of the State Government met on Friday, 3rd May, 2024, in Government House, Osadebey Avenue, Benin City, to consider the on-the-spot assessment of the disastrous phenomenon submitted by relevant agencies of government.

As an introductory reaction to the report, Governor Obaseki instantly approved further dispatch of many trucks of relief materials to the victims. The trucks swiftly moved with the heaps of relief materials, which leaders and victims of Lamkpese Community have received with jubilation.

The pervading feeling in government and other circles reflects an African adage which states that “the rain storm which blows off the palace of a beloved king only creates a great opportunity for the royal compound to wear a new and attractive look.” In effect, Edo State Government will use its high and good offices to provide enough succour to victims of the unexpected disaster as well as rehabilitate and reverse the damage which the hands of nature have inflicted on the peaceful face of Lamkpese Community.

In a private chat with some news men, the Deputy Governor, High Chief Godwin Omobayo, asserted that the Obaseki-led government is a highly socially responsible one that cannot afford to politicise disaster because loss, sorrow, celebration and laughter have no political parties and tribe. They can happen to anyone and any tribe.

In this regard, the Deputy Governor,  encourages good-hearted Edo people and Nigerians to cultivate the divine habit of sending material succour to victims of natural and social disasters. He also used the opportunity to thank all the politicians and public-spirited individuals that have sent relief materials, in whatever measures, to the victims of the rain storm.
