Celebrating Progress on Road Projects in Edo

The journey towards enhancing connectivity and infrastructure development continues as we provide updates on key road projects within our jurisdiction.

We have a good story to tell …

Revitalizing the Benin-Abraka Road

The Benin-Abraka Road, spanning 88 kilometers, had long been neglected by the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Development and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). However, in a proactive move, the Edo State government has taken charge by awarding contracts for 40.5 kilometers of this critical route. Progress is evident as construction has advanced significantly. This road holds strategic importance as it connects to the Orhionmwon Local Government Area, home to the largest oil palm project in Africa, as well as vital gas and crude oil fields.

Advancements on the Ekenwan-Ugbiyokho Road

Work is underway on the Ekenwan-Ugbiyokho Road, which upon completion will serve as a crucial link to Gelegele, the nearest point to the Benin Port Project. The state government is employing innovative concrete technology in addressing low-lying areas along the route, ensuring durability and resilience.

Impressive Road Infrastructure Statistics

Demonstrating a commitment to comprehensive infrastructure development, the State Government proudly announces the completion of 565 roads, covering an impressive total distance of 737.37 kilometers. Among these projects, notable mentions include the PZ-Ehioghae-Okabere-Oka Market Road, facilitating connectivity between Sapele Road and Upper Sakponba. Additionally, significant efforts have been made towards the rehabilitation of failed sections across various roads, ensuring safe and efficient transportation networks.

In Edo North, commendable progress has been made with the completion of projects such as the Afokpella-Ogriga-Okugbe road with Awuyemi Spur, alongside the successful rehabilitation of the Secretariat Road in Igarra, among others. Meanwhile, in Edo Central, 56 roads have been constructed, with several others currently undergoing construction. Standout projects in this region include the Ekpoma-Iruekpen Road and the Idumebo-Ihumudumu Royal Market Road, reflecting the government’s dedication to impactful development initiatives.
