U.S. President, Donald Trump has given reasons for pardoning offenders involved in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol building in Washington.
Trump who signed the corresponding order in the White House in Washington, few hours after his swearing-in on Monday, said those offenders have served years in jail.
“Only for one reason: they have served years in jail,”
“Their lives have been ruined,” the US president stated.
Recall that on January 6, 2021, supporters of Trump violently stormed the U.S. Congressional seat in Washington, where the Republican’s election defeat to Joe Biden was to be certified at the time.
A crowd incited by Trump, who held a rally to promote claims of election fraud, violently entered the building, killing five people.
Roughly 1,500 people were charged in connection with the U.S. Capitol riot in January 2021.
