Clinical staff at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, OAUTHC, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, will embark on strike on February 3, 2025.
The decision to proceed on industrial action was occasioned by a directive from the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, MDCAN, South-west Zone.
In a statement signed by the chairman of the association, Dr Olufemi Ogundipe and the general secretary, Dr Tajudin Adetunji, MDCAN stated that the strike notice comes after a 21-day ultimatum issued to university vice-chancellors in the zone.
The association further explained that it is demanding the placement of clinical lecturers on the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, CONMESS.
MDCAN emphasized that the failure to adopt the CONMESS salary structure has resulted in significant income disparities for clinical lecturers at OAU.
The union argued that years of income loss and salary discrepancies have created an unsustainable situation for its members.
MDCAN expressed the believe that the immediate implementation of the CONMESS salary scale is necessary to address the concerns of clinical staff.
It argued that except their demands are met, the planned strike will proceed as scheduled.
