The University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH has attended to nearly 300,000 patients in 2024.
Chief Medical Director of the health institution, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, disclosed this at the hospital’s 2024 End of Year/Award Night in Benin City.
He also disclosed that about 2,100 births were recorded so far in the hospital in the same year.
According to Obaseki, in 2024, the health institution attended to about 300,000 patients and performed about 6,300 surgeries across different theatres in the hospital.
While noting that about 20,000 patients were treated and discharged so far in 2024, the Chief Medical Director also disclosed that an average of over 1,500 outpatients were attended to daily by the hospital.
“We treated and discharged about 20,000 patients from our wards, and we took delivery of about 2,100 births. As we speak, people are still delivering. So, it is a lot of work, and tonight, we are here to honour those who do this work,” he stated.
A significant highlight of the event was the recognition of exceptional departments and individuals whose contributions stood out in maintaining the hospital’s standards.
Those recognized and rewarded include the overall staff of the year, department of the year, unit of the year, and committee of the year, among others.
