A former federal lawmaker, senator Ayo Arise has thrown his weight behind the tax reform bills of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.
Arise, who represented Ekiti North in the National Assembly observed that Nigeria can’t survive without any form of taxation.
Speaking with journalists on Monday, Arise maintained that that there is no way the country can generate more income, outside of taxation.
According to him, we have been talking about fuel subsidy removal and everyone knows that Nigeria can no longer depend on that single product.
While noting that president Tinubu wants to see the country generate more revenue, the former lawmaker stated that Nigerians are now exporting more products than under any previous administrations.
“These are part of the achievements of this government. People are beginning to be productive. They are exporting in droves. They are exporting our culture, including our clothes.
“I had an opportunity of speaking with the Comptroller-General of Customs and I asked him questions concerning our exports. In the past people used to bring in so many products but the ship returned almost with no cargo. That is no longer the case,” he stated.
