Edo State Internal Revenue Service, EIRS has solicited the collaboration of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to curb incidences of tax evasion, as well as strength en tax compliance efforts.
The Executive Chairman of EIRS, Mr Oladele Bankole-Balogun made the appeal when he led members of the Board of the Service on a courtesy visit to Acting Zonal Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate of EFCC, ACE Effa Okim, in Benin City
Addressing the EFCC acting Zonal Director, the EIRS boss commended the commission’s leadership for its efforts towards supporting the objectives of the revenue service by ensuring taxable individuals and corporate organisations comply with the relevant tax laws.
He explained that Governor Monday Okpebholo had charged the Board among other directives to grow the IGR of the state to enable his administration actualize its five points agenda of security, infrastructure and road development, affordable healthcare, water and food sufficiency, and value-driven education.
Mr. Bankole-Balogun noted that the EIRS recorded over ten billion naira in January, and solicited the support of the EFCC to sustain the progress.
Responding, the Acting Zonal Director commended the EIRS boss and his team for the achievement recorded since his assumption of office.
He observed that through its processes and procedures, the commission has been at the forefront of ensuring taxpayers are tax compliant in the state, and will continue to do so.
While assuring the EIRS team of the commission’s support and collaboration, A.C.E Okim urged the state government not to betray citizens’ trust by ensuring judicious and transparent utilisation of revenues generated for the benefit of the people.
