The Supreme Court is to deliver final judgment in the legal battle between Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo and his challenger, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, on Thursday, July 10.
Sources at the Supreme Court confirmed on Wednesday that the judgment of the 5-man panel of justices who heard the case would be made public on July 10.
Governor Okpebholo and the All Progressives Congress, APC, were declared winners of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, last year.
Dissatisfied with the pronouncement, Ighodalo and the PDP appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court after losing their challenges in the Court of Appeal and the Election Petition Tribunal.
At the hearing, the five-member highest court panel that decided the case, presided over by Justice Mohammed Garba Lawal, stated that the parties’ attorneys will be notified of the date of the decision delivery. The appeal aimed to remove Okpebholo from his position as governor of Edo State.
The decision of the apex court, when handed down, will put an end to a series of judicial cases that followed the legality or otherwise of the election.
