
In a bid to create awareness on cancer prevention in Edo State, a road walk has been organized to create awareness that Cancer is real and that early detention saves.
The walk against cancer which took off from Airport road, through Akenzua Junction to Vegetable Market, witnessed large turn out of people chanting slogan such as “Cancer is not a death sentence, when detected early, it can be treated”.
The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo state, Mrs Edesili Anani, who joined in the road walk, stated that gone were the days when cancer was seen as a death sentence.
While noting that the ailment is now preventable and curable, Mrs. Anani urged Women to ensure they do self examination, especially against breast cancer.
Commissioner for Health, Edo State, Dr. Cyril Oshiomole said the essence of the walk was to enlighten people about Cancer, informing them that Cancer was real.
He advised them to go for regular evaluation and check up, and cultivate good dietary culture with high fiber foods and less of junks.
Oshiomole also sued for regular exercises, urging people to be very conscious of their environment.
The convener of the walk against Cancer, Mrs Sally Suleman stated that everyone should endeavour to go for regular check up and encouraged women to understand their bodies.
She advised them to go to the hospital for proper check up once they notice any irregularity in their body.
