Men of the Ogun State Police Command have intercepted a group of 20 youth of unknown origin in possession of dangerous weapons, including knives, daggers, cutlasses and suspected charms.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when the police officers, led by the State Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, were on a weekend patrol along Eledumare, Bamboo 1 & 2, Fidiwo 1 & 2, Foursquare, Alapako, and Onigari, all within Ogun State and bordering Oyo State.
In a statement, the spokesperson of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, said the Commissioner, on noticing the group without a clear destination, ordered a search of their belongings, leading to the recovery of the weapons.
“The Ogun State Police Command, headed by Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, has intercepted a group of twenty young individuals of unknown origin who were seen alighting from a truck near the Ogun-Oyo boundary.
“CP Ogunlowo, on observing the group without a clear destination or satisfactory explanation for their movement, ordered a search of their persons and belongings, leading to the recovery of dangerous weapons, including daggers, knives, cutlasses, and suspected charms,” she stated.
Odutola further stated that the Commissioner directed that the suspects be detained after the discovery and that further investigations be conducted.
CP Ogunlowo further instructed that anyone found culpable should be swiftly charged in court to ensure justice is served.
While reassuring residents of the state that the Command would keep stepping up its efforts to prevent crime, the police boss urged members of the public to always be on guard and notify the police of any suspicious movements or actions for timely intervention.
