The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, identified as Umar Mohammed, for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Bangi, Mariga Local Government Area.
A statement issued by Public Relations Officer of the command, Wasiu Abiodun, revealed that the incident took place on January 27, 2025, at about 9 pm.
The police image maker explained that a direct complaint to officers at Bangi Division of the force led to the arrest of Mohammed, an unmarried farmer from Farar-Doka village.
He stated that the six-year-old victim had been sent on an errand to a nearby shop but returned late and in tears.
Abiodun stated further that Mohammed accosted the child on her way back from the shop, took her to a nearby bush, and committed the crime.
The Police Public Relations Officer added that the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Bangi for medical attention, while the suspect was arrested and taken in for questioning.
