President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the stampedes in the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo and Anambra States and as grave errors on the part of the organizers.
The president made the observation during his first media chat since his inauguration last year.
Tinubu noted that while the organizers of the food distribution had good intentions, the unfortunate events led to the loss of lives.
He therefore emphasized the need for a more organized and effective food distribution mechanism.
The president cautioned “If you know you don’t have enough to give, do not attempt to publicize it. Every society has its share of angry people. There are food banks, but unfortunately, the stampedes occurred. It is a very grave error on the part of the organizers”.
Several people reportedly lost their lives over the weekend, in food distribution stampedes in multiple states.
