Okpebholo Calls for Redeployment of Security Guards at Govt House

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has called for the immediate redeployment of security personnel, including the camp commandant, who were on duty at the Government House in Benin City on Friday, 11th July, 2025.

The development followed the controversial lockout of journalists and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from accessing the premises during the Supreme Court victory celebration.

The governor, in a statement by his chief press secretary, Fred Itua, expressed dissatisfaction over the incident, noting that the action was unacceptable and inconsistent with his leadership style.

The statement emphasized that the governor remains a people-focused and accessible leader who holds the media and his supporters in high regard.

It further observed that the exclusion of invited guests and supporters was not only unauthorized but also in complete contradiction to the spirit of the celebration.

The statement added that Governor Okpebholo has constituted a small investigative committee to identify all those involved in the unfortunate incident.
