The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has called on President Bola Tinubu to wade into the altercation between the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement issued by its National Vice President, Akinbodunse Felicia on Saturday, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the students body said Tinubu should intervene before the matter degenerates into an international embarrassment for Nigeria.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had a face-off with Akpabio during the house sitting, had accused the Senate President of sexually harassing her.
While noting that the National Assembly is a key organ of government which should be occupied by forthright representatives of the people, the NANS leader argued that if the allegation of sexual harassment levelled against the Senate President, is not properly managed and rested, it would cause international embarrassment for Nigeria.
She maintained that though Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has not provided evidence, the matter should be looked into with a view of ascertaining the veracity of her claims.
Akinbodunse, however, noted that the National Assembly should not be bogged down by frivolities, especially now that Nigeria is going through economic and financial stress.
