A High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has sentenced one Jayeoba Oluwafemi, aged 56, to life imprisonment for defiling his 14-year-old stepdaughter.

The convict was arraigned before Justice Adekunle Adeleye on Dec. 4, 2020, on one count charge of defilement.

According to the charge, the defendant on October 26, 2020, at Ado Ekiti, defiled the 14-year-old girl (names withheld), in contravention of Section 31(2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

In her testimony before the court, the victim disclosed that they were not living together with the defendant, but that he used to sleep in their house, especially when her mother was not at home or travelled.

She further said on October 26, 2020, when her mother traveled to Lagos, the defendant slept in their house, and at midnight forcefully had sex with her, and thereafter, blood was gushing out of her private part.

The prosecutor, Julius Ajibare, called six witnesses to prove his case and tendered the defendant’s statement and medical report as exhibits.

The defendant was also represented by his defense counsel, Oladele Adedeji, who called only one witness.

In his judgment, Justice Adekunle Adeleye observed that the sexual intercourse sessions were on several occasions, and a one-off affair.

He, thereafter, sentenced the 56-year-old man to life imprisonment as provided for under the provisions of Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
