The Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled in Kano State, has assured of its continued support for the effective implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in the state.
The Kano state commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, stressed the ministry’s determination to enforce the VAPP Law at a forum with a delegation from the Development Research and Projects Center, DRPC,
The state remains the only state yet to adopt the VAPP law so far, as 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have passed the law or at least have adopted legislations to protect women from Gender-Based Violence.
The commissioner pointed out that partnership with relevant stakeholders would be key to achieving full implementation of the VAPP law in Kano.
While urging the DRPC to continue its advocacy for women, children, and persons with disabilities, Hajiya Abdullahi restated the Women Affairs ministry’s openness to work with non-governmental organizations.
In their remarks, Program Officer for Gender, Hajiya Aisha Bello and Senior Program Associate, Umar Ahmad Umar, highlighted the DRPC’s ongoing work in public health, women’s economic empowerment, gender issues and other areas.
