No fewer than nine persons have been confirmed dead in a violent clash between villagers and Fulani herders in Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas of Jigawa State.
Four others were injured in the incident which began in Gululu village, Miga LGA, when suspected miscreants broke into a shop and stole hibiscus and other provisions.
A statement by the Jigawa State police command indicated that villagers traced the suspects’ footprints to a Fulani settlement in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.
According to report, the confrontation increased rapidly when the herders allegedly attacked the villagers with bows and arrows, leaving the four people critically injured.
In a reprisal attack, the villagers burnt several homes in the Fulani settlement across the two LGAs.
Meanwhile, Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, AT Abdullahi, the speaker of the Jigawa State Assembly, chairmen of Local Government Areas and others stakeholders who visited scene of the incident have urged calm and called for an end to reprisal attacks.
