The House of Representatives has summoned Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue State and his counterpart in Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, as well as their respective state assemblies, to appear before it on Thursday, May 8.
The summons issued by the house’s committee on public petitions was in connection to the rising insecurity in the state.
The development had prompted a civil rights organization, Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law, to petition the Green Chamber.
The executive and legislative arms of the two states are to appear before the committee to explain why their constitutional functions should not be taken over by the House of Representatives due to insecurity.
A statement issued by the Head of Media, House Committee on Public Petitions, Chooks Oko, on Friday, revealed that the summon is a follow-up to a petition written by a civil rights organization, Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law.
The organization urged the House to take over the functions of the two Houses of Assembly.
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions, Mike Etaba, who personally signed the summons, observed that the invited parties were already aware of the facts of the case.
