The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has met with key stakeholders on the proposed enforcement of third-party vehicle insurance in the country.
The meeting which held at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri, centered on sensitizing stakeholders and raising public awareness about the importance of acquiring vehicle insurance.
Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act mandate that all vehicle owners possess third-party insurance before operating their vehicles on public roads.
Representatives from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State Transport Corporation, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, IRS and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, were present at the meeting.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danjuma pointed out that vehicles without valid third-party insurance will be impounded until compliance is ensured.
On his part, Chairman of the NURTW, Samuel Udeh, assured that its members would update their insurance documents promptly.
The enforcement of third party vehicle insurance is to take effect on February 1, 2025, in Imo State and other parts of the country.
