The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has cautioned against purported plan to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
The chairman of the council’s Eastern Zone, Prince Sukubo, gave the advice while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
While noting that Friday’s Supreme Court rulings had been weaponised by individuals who did not have the state’s best interests at heart, Sukubo observed that such development would destabilize the state.
He observed that the so-called 48-hour ultimatum issued to Governor Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget is a calculated attempt to create chaos and potentially impeach the governor.
“Any move to impeach the governor would be an attack on our elected leadership and an affront to the will of the people, who have entrusted governance to an Ijaw man, Fubara,” Sukubo stated.
The IYC zonal chairman maintained that any attempt to remove Fubara from office would amount to stealing the governor’s mandate, which was freely given to him by the electorate.
He therefore called on all stakeholders to work together to maintain peace and stability by prioritising dialogue and cooperation over conflict.
