The Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba Ewuare the second has performed Ugie-Iron rite in continuation of the Benin annual festival
Ugie-Iron rite is a re-enactment of the battle fought between the Uzama (Edion) and the Edogun warriors loyal to the Oba centuries ago.
To commemorate the event, a mock battle is keenly staged between the Uzama (Edion) and the Edogun troops in accordance with the tradition of Benin kingdom
The ritual, however gives enormous opportunity for the Warriors to pay absolute homage to the Oba as well as pledge their unflinching allegiance and loyalty to the Benin monarchy.
Our correspondent reports that the ceremony which took place at the Ugha-Erhoba axis of the Oba Palace ground saw various ancient and traditional groups in attendance, including top palace chiefs, members of the Benin royal Family, as well as sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom.
