The police in Jigawa State have arrested 20-year-old groom, Auwal Abdulwahab and his three friends for allegedly coercing his bride into non-consensual sexual activity.
Spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam disclosed this in a statement.
Adam revealed that the incident occured on 26/04/2025 in Tungo village, Albasu District in Sule Tankarkar local Government.
According to Shiisu, the newly married man is suspected of orchestrating an incident against his wife within days of their wedding.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the bride had reportedly disagreed with her husband on marital relations until their wedding.
Shiisu said upon receipt of the report, team of policemen rushed to the scene and the body was evacuated to Gumel General Hospital for medical examination and the doctor on call confirmed her death.
He said the corpse was released to her parents for burial, while the four suspects involved have been apprehended and taken into custody for discreet investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be immediately transferred to the State CID Dutse for a discreet investigation.
He added that the suspects will face two charges under relevant laws of the jurisdiction, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
