The Nigerian Government has directed an investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS.
The government gave the order in response to reports that a crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, did not serve his jail term inside the correctional centre.
Okuneye, porpularly known as Bobrisky was in April this year, sentenced to prison for naira mutilation.
In a statement on Wednesday, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated that any form of unprofessionalism and corruption in the service will attract severe punishment.
The statement issued by his media aide, Babatunde Alao, directed a special investigative team headed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to probe the allegation and submit a comprehensive report.
Tunji-Ojo assured that the investigation would be thorough, transparent, and impartial, Â stressing that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against anyone found guilty.
A social critic, Martins Otse aka VeryDarkMan had alleged that Bobrisky’s voice was heard in an audio recording, telling a friend that he spent his jail term in an apartment near the correctional facility.
