The Borno State government has inaugurated the Ngarannam Livestock Improvement and Ranch Settlement in Mafa Local Government Area.
The livestock ranch is designed to modernize the livestock sector, enhance productivity, and foster peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers.
Speaking at the official inauguration on Saturday, Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum stressed that the initiative goes beyond livestock production.
According to the governor, the initiative is also aimed at creating jobs, empowering youth and women, as well as reducing the farmer-herder clashes.
In a remark, Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, described the project as a model for the entire country.
On his part, National President of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzelma commended the Borno State Government for its dedication to addressing the challenges faced by herders.
The Ngarannam settlement comprises critical infrastructure such as veterinary clinics, sustainable water supply systems, breeding centers, dairy and beef upgrading centers, and milk collection hubs.
The settlement which span an area of 10 kilometers, also features housing estates, schools, health centre and pasture development centres.
