The 16th Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed concerns over the growing prevalence of drug abuse, especially among women and youth in society.
The Emir made the remark when he in received in audience the President of the Anti-Drug Abuse Group, Ambassador Maryam Hassan and members of his team, in his palace.
The monarch observed that there are actions that cannot be carried out without taking drugs, such as a person killing their sibling or their parents.
Sanusi II advised the delegation to focus on raising awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, especially about its severe consequences, which he noted, has become widespread.
In her speech, the President of the Anti-Drug Abuse Group, Ambassador Maryam Hassan, told the Emir about the activities of the organization, which include the fight against drug abuse, especially among women and youth.
She noted that her organization is organizing workshops for teachers and holders of traditional titles to raise awareness on the dangers of drug abuse.
The president of the Anti-Drug Abuse Group also told the royal highness that the body has proposed a law on drug abuse to the National Assembly and sought for the support of the Kano emirate to ensure the passage of the bill in the National Assembly.
