The Federal Government has commenced the transfer of regulatory oversight of the electricity supply industry to 10 states as of January 10, 2025.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, made this known in a statement posted on its official X account on Monday.
The commission noted that the transfer of regulatory oversight for Enugu, Ekiti, Ondo, and Imo, has been completed, while that of Oyo, Edo, Kogi, Lagos and Ogun is in progress as of January 10, 2025.
According to NERC, once the transfers are completed, the states will be in charge of regulating their electricity markets.
The transfer of regulatory oversight of the electricity supply industry is in compliance with the 2023 Electricity Act, which authorised the liberalisation of the country’s power sector.
