A Nigerian electricity distribution company, Aba Power, has announced over 50 percent tariff hike in electricity for customers within its franchise in Abia State.
The electric company announces the development in a notice to customers shared through its official X handle.
It observes that the increment was sequel to the approval granted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
The new tariff regime by Aba Power, kicked off on 1st January, 2025.
With the development, customers categorized under Band A feeders will now pay between N219.70 and N241.45 per kilowatt-hour as against N99/kWh.
Electricity consumers under Band B are to pay between N180.77 and N203/kWh, while those under Band C feeders will pay between N145 and N205/kWh.
The electricity company attributed the increment to macroeconomic realities it faced.
It assured that the adjustment will enable it to cushion the effects of recent macroeconomic developments in Nigeria and to continue to deliver a high quality of service to its customers in compliance with regulatory standards.
