About two hundred and fifty elderly men and women aged 65 and above have received cash grants in the 2nd edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS) of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The event held simultaneously across the thirty six States of the federation and the federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In Edo State, hundreds of elderly men and women besieged the festival Hall of the Edo State Government house, Benin City to benefit from some welfare packages, courtesy of Nigeria’s first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The event under the auspices of the renewed hope initiative for the elderly ensured that about two hundred and fifty elderly persons underwent medical check up and treatment for Sugar level, Hypertension, Eye diseases, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Administrator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs Edesili Anani, who represented the First Lady of Nigeria at the event, said the beneficiaries would also include veterans from Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).
Mrs Tinubu noted that the governing board of the initiative decided to increase the yearly grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year to provide further support to the elderly citizens during the festive season with free medical health.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo commended the President and his wife for the initiative, which he said would go a long way in meeting the needs of the elderly as they celebrate the festive season.
Earlier , Edo State APC woman leader, Mrs Betty Okoebor, thanked the President and the First Lady of Nigeria for the initiative .
