….. Approves 6 Months Workplan
The management of Edo State Flood, Erosion and Watershed Management Agency(Edo-FEWMA) has convened the inaugural meeting of government stakeholders of the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project-European Investment Bank(NEWMAP-EIB) intervention.
At the meeting the Chief Executive Officer of Edo-FEWMA and the Project Coordinator of the State NEWMAP-EIB intervention, Hon. Ahmed Musa Momoh, briefed the representatives of stakeholders government Ministries, Departments and Agencies on the extent of the State preparedness to kick start the project as well as the launch sometime in June.
According to him the State government had already provided the necessary counterpart funding needed for additional financing to be released by the European Investment Bank.
He explained that given the State government implementation of the guidelines of the Bank for the project to commence he was confident that the government was ready for the launch of NEWMAP-EIB project in the State.
Earlier in his welcome remarks to participants, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Environment and Sustainability, Mr. Jude Ebodaghe Ekpu, who represented his Commissioner/ Chairman Steering Committee of the NEWMAP-EIB project noted the prior laudable transformation in the State landscape as a result of NEWMAP construction and remediation works and expressed his happiness at the new additional funding coming from the EIB for more project works to be executed in the State.
He stated that with the calibre of experienced government officials present at the inaugural meeting there was no doubt the project will benefit greatly from their advice.
Mr. Taiwo Akerele, a former project coordinator of SEEFOR, in his closing remarks thanked the officials for attending the meeting. He noted that there was only one beneficiary of the project, and that was the people of Edo State. He enjoined the stakeholder MDAs representatives to avail the project management of their expert advice for success of the project.
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation and approval of the 6 months workplan for the Edo State NEWMAP-EIB project.
