Edo: Army Arrests 31 for Alleged Cybercrime, Kidnapping, Robbery

At least 31 suspected criminals have been arrested by personnel of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army during a raid on a hideout in Benin.

Reports have it that the raid took place in a building in First Bank Estate, Awesome Garden, along the Benin-Sapele Bypass, Benin.

The brigade commander, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Oduyebo, who led the operation on Monday said the raid followed credible intelligence on the activities of a notorious fraud syndicate operating from the location.

In a statement, Public Relations Officer of the Brigade Capt. Chinonso Oteh said the suspects were allegedly involved in cybercrime, robbery, and other criminal activities.

The brigade’s spokesperson listed items recovered from the scene to include a Toyota vehicle, laptops, smartphones, and cash, among others.

He, however, revealed that the culprits and their victims, along with all recovered items, had been handed over to the Benin Directorate Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and prosecution.

Oteh added that Brig-Gen. Oduyebo appreciated the troops and collaborating security agencies for the successful operation.
