Seventeen out of the 18 legislative leaders that emerged as acting chairmen after the impeachment of democratically elected local government chairmen in Edo State have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers, now acting chairmen, on Monday formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the ruling APC in the state.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, while receiving the acting chairmen, at Government House, Benin City commended them for the courage to leave their party, the PDP, to join the APC.
He expressed the hope that leaders of the opposition parties in the state would join the APC fold following his infrastructural development strides in the state.
While assuring that his administration is ready to work to change the lives of the people for the better, the governor claimed that he and his team have changed the narrative of Edo State, in just four months in office.
Okpebholo also commended the councillors for speaking for their various communities through the impeachment exercises in the councils and subsequent election of the new chairmen across the 17 local government areas of Edo State.
Earlier, the state Secretary of APC, Lawrence Okah, who received the defectors on behalf of the state chairman, Jarret Tenebe, thanked the councillors for joining the party.
The APC chairman urged them to unite with other members of the party as the administration of Governor Okpebholo has come to rescue the state from retrogression.
The ALGON chairman and chairman of Esan Central LGA, Kelvin Iyere, who spoke on behalf of others, thanked the governor and all APC party faithful for accepting them into the party.
Iyere added that they decided to leave PDP because of the crisis in their party and their love for the development that Governor Okpebholo has brought to Edo State.
