
A petroleum tanker carrying about 50,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, has lost control in Oyo State.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Olope Marun along the Ogbomoso/Oyo Road.
According to report, the tanker, carrying 50,000 litres of PMS, lost control while in motion and swerved off the road.
The Oyo State Fire Service immediately mobilized firefighters to the scene to avert danger, as eyewitnesses immediately alerted the service about the situation.
Speaking on the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, disclosed that the emergency was reported via a distress call on February 27, 2025, at exactly 7 minutes to 2pm.
“By 14:55 hrs, a fire tanker, five personnel, and ACFS Dairo in charge left for the scene and arrived by 14:59 hrs.
”We met a Mack trailer tanker carrying 50,000 litres of PMS that had lost control while in motion, swerved off the road, and detached from the head, with its contents gushing out,” he stated.
Mr. Akinyinka added that they quickly swung into action by carpeting the area with foam compound to avoid a fire disaster and are still at work.
