The court of appeal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate in the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election, Mr. Asuen Ighodalo, against the victory of Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the election.
In a unanimous decision, the 3-man panel of justices of the court held that the appeal brought before the court by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was devoid of merit.
The panel led by Justice Mohammed Danjuma pointed out that both PDP and Ighodalo failed to establish a miscarriage of justice in the judgment of the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier dismissed the petition of the two appellants.
The Court of Appeal therefore upheld the election of Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for being validly conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Appellate Court on Thursday also held that Governor Okpebholo was properly returned and declared as the winner of the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election.
