The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced facilities for free comprehensive emergency obstetric care and vesicovaginal fistula, VVF surgeries.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, made the announcement on Friday during the programme “Politics Today” on Channels Television.
According to the minister, 154 health facilities were designated by the government across the country for free treatment of women who have obstetric complications.
Such women, according to Pate, include those who have health challenges or difficulties that arise during pregnancy, labour, delivery or the postpartum period, potentially affecting the mother’s or baby’s well-being.
While noting that the facilities have quality manpower and standard equipment, he also announced 18 participating centres across Nigeria for free treatment of vesicovaginal fistula (VVF).
