A High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has issued an interim order refraining the Senate Ethics Committee from proceeding with its planned investigation of the actions of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on the floor of the house.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the order on Tuesday following an ex parte application filed by counsels to the senator representing Kogi Central, Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The court’s ruling comes as the committee was set to convene and potentially impose an indefinite suspension on the senator.
With the interim order, all proceedings on the matter would be put on hold, pending further judicial review.
The court ruling comes amid rising tensions following a February 20, 2025 clash between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.
