
Edo State House of Assembly has passed a Bill to amend Edo State University Uzairue Law 2020.
The amendment is to replace Uzairue in the name of the university with Iyamho.
With the development, the institution is now to be called Edo State University, Iyamho, instead of Edo State University, Uzairue.
The majority leader of the House, Mr Charity Iguobarueghian who kick-started debate on the bill said that the change of the name of the university was in line with reality on ground.
Hon Aiguobarueghian also clarified that the University is situated in Iyamho, a community in Uzairue clan.
Members of the house unanimously agreed pointing out that the amendment would give the people of Iyamho the needed pride.
The bill was thereafter subjected to clause by clause consideration before its passage.
After the bill scaled third reading, the Speaker, Mr Blessing Agbebaku directed Clerk of the House, Alhaji Yahaya Omogbai to make clean copies of the bill available to the Governor for his assent.
