The federal government of Nigeria has officially set the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions in the country at 16 years.
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa disclosed this on Tuesday while opening the ongoing Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
He pointed out that the government’s official minimum admission age of 16 is final and non-negotiable.
The minister warned that any admission carried out outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) would be deemed illegal, and those responsible would face prosecution.
Alausa added that heads of institutions involved in admission malpractice would be prosecuted.
