Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the composition of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) to protect consumers against unfair trade practices and market exploitation.
This is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.
The statement observed that the council consists of professionals, government officials, and business representatives, tasked with ensuring fair trade practices and protecting consumers from substandard products.
It further states that the council’s primary mandate is to protect consumer rights and ensure businesses operate under fair, transparent, and lawful conditions.
“This initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to promoting good governance, market confidence, and shielding the public from unethical business practices,” the statement partly read.
The statement pointed out that the council would immediately begin operations to address consumer complaints, regulate trade practices, as well as establish a business environment that accord priority to transparency and accountability.
The newly appointed members of the council include Dr. Umar Garba Haruna as chairman and Alhaji Zangina Jafaru as the executive secretary.
Other key members are Hon. Ibrahim Ahmad Gama, Alhaji Hussaini Bello Gidado, Alhaji Munzali Abubakar and Hajiya Sadiya Umar Bichi.
Others are; Barr. Shamsu Jibrin, Alhaji Ahmed Isah Chesi, Ali Muhammad Adakawa, Sani Gambo, Barr. Halima Yahuza Ahmad, Prof. Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, Aminu Gidado Yushe’u, Bashir Shehu Gezawa, Maryam Halilu Haruna, Bashir Uba, Engr. Faisal Mahmud, Umar Zubairu.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the council would immediately begin operations to address consumer complaints, regulate trade practices, and create a business environment that prioritizes transparency and accountability.
