Israel has announced its decision to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council, UNHRC.
The country’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar disclosed this via X on Wednesday.
He said his country would follow the United States’ lead and leave the UNHRC.
The minister accused the UNHRC of providing sanctions for abusers of human rights, allowing them to hide from scrutiny, and instead obsessively demonising the one democracy in the Middle East – Israel.
Sa’ar also accused the council of attacking a democratic country and propagating antisemitism, instead of promoting human rights.
President Donald Trump of US had signed an executive order signalling America’s withdrawal from the council.
The order also stopped US funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.
