The senator representing Edo North in the National Assembly, comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomole has stated that superior power is needed to tackle the menace of illegal mining in Nigeria.
Oshiomole who made the remark in an Arise Television Program on Tuesday, insisted that very powerful people were behind illegal mining in the country.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior urged the Tinubu’s led administration in Nigeria to enforce stronger measures in curbing the menace of illegal mining in the country.
“I would like to see government deploying the same amount of force in protecting our solid minerals and dealing with those who are involved in illegal mining just like illegal bunkering,” the Edo North senator stated.
Oshiomole used the opportunity to make clarification on a media report where he was quoted of accusing retired military generals of having hands in illegal mining in the country.
According to Oshiomhole, what he meant was “some retired Generals” were involved and not all as was reported.
He expressed concerns about the unchecked activities of foreign and local actors involved in illegal mining.
