The Police Service Commission has approved the retirement of senior police officers who have spent more than 35 years in service and those above 60 years of age.
A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, revealed that the approval is with immediate effect.
While saying that the decision was taken at its 24th Plenary Meeting of 27th and 28th September 2017, the statement encouraged the new recruits into the Force to have their date of appointment against the date of their enlistment.
The extra-ordinary meeting which was presided over by PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, also had in attendance Justice Adamu Paul Galumje, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court and commissioner representing the judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu, commissioner representing the police and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.
Meanwhile, the Commission’s decision has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
