The Federal Government has disclosed that the minimum wage would be reviewed in two years time, instead of the five-year review interval.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made the disclosure on Thursday in Abia State.
She emphasized that the review timeline is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s promise to Nigerian workers to ensure the minimum wage was reviewed after three years.
“It used to be about five years, but now, in three years’ time, which is less than two years, we will review the minimum wage,” the minister stated.
President Tinubu had last year approved a N70,000 minimum wage, with a promise to review it every three years.
Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress, TUC, recently called for a yearly review of the minimum wage in line with rising inflation.
