The Association for Civil Society on Malaria Control, Immunization, and Nutrition, ACOMIN, has appealed to the Niger State government to increase support in the fight against malaria.
The state coordinator of the group, Mr. Olasukanmi Kalejaiye, made the appeal during the commemoration of World Malaria Day at Bosso community.
This year’s commemoration, which has as its theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” demands a changed global effort to eradicate the disease in Minna.
Mr. Kalejaiye emphasized the need for collective efforts to defeat malaria, noting that a dimensional strategy is required to overcome the disease.
While noting that Nigeria has keyed into the global effort to eliminate malaria, he called on the government to reinvest in proven interventions, reimagine strategies, and reignite efforts to achieve a malaria-free future.
The Niger State ACOMIN coordinator highlighted the need for increased national cooperation, addressing fragile health systems, and ensuring equitable access to prevention and treatment services.
As part of this year’s observance of World Malaria Day, ACOMIN conducted free malaria tests and treatment for hundreds of community members in Minna.
