The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raided a criminal armory in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state and recovered firearms.
A 72-year-old man, identified as Monday Maurice Okoko was arrested during the raid.
Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Timfon John, made this known in a statement on Saturday.
John explained that police operatives on 26 April, 2025, raided the suspect’s residence and recovered the said firearms.
He listed the items recovered to include one locally made revolver pistol, one cut-to-size locally made pistol and one single-barrel locally fabricated gun.
One LAR locally fabricated gun, five Dane gunpowder, and Borries ammunition were equally recovered.
Preliminary investigation into the matter is ongoing as operatives move to apprehend other members of the gang.
The statement partly read, “On April 26, 2025, at about 0515 hrs, a joint operation led by the operatives of the Command resulted in the arrest of one Monday Maurice Okoko, a 72-year-old male.
“A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence and premises led to the recovery of firearms from his armory.”
