The Osun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has confirmed the death of five persons in an accident that occurred on the Ife-Ilesa highway on Saturday.
A statement released by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the corps in the state, Mrs. Agnes Ogungbemi, in Osogbo, indicated that the accident was a result of reckless driving.
She explained that the accident occurred when a private Toyota Hilux with number plate FKJ 691 HZ had a head-on collision with an articulated vehicle.
The FRSC spokesperson stated that the accident involved nine passengers: six male adults, two female adults, and a child.
Ogungbemi further said that five of the passengers died in the accident, one was injured, and three were rescued unhurt.
According to her, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue, while the only injured passenger has been taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
The FRSC spokesperson added that items recovered at the scene of the accident were handed over to the family members of the victims in the presence of the police officers.
