The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has replied to recent criticisms by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), describing the opposition party’s statements as “infantile outbursts” and “a circus of hypocrisy.”
In a press statement signed by the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Barr. Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie, the party dismissed PDP’s claims that Governor Monday Okpebholo had breached constitutional provisions by expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid. The APC asserted that the governor’s comments were merely a political rallying cry and not a formal campaign declaration.
“There is no violation of the Electoral Act or the Constitution,” Igbinigie stated. “If the PDP had read Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act with proper comprehension, they would understand it refers to official campaign activities—not expressions of goodwill or party mobilization rhetoric.”
The APC accused the PDP of orchestrating a “desperate ploy to stay relevant,” citing what it described as the party’s declining influence, internal implosions, and frequent defections. “Their panic is understandable—a broom in capable hands is sweeping them into deserved oblivion,” the statement read.
Addressing alleged condemnations from the presidency, the APC labeled such reports as falsehoods designed to mislead the public. The party also dismissed PDP’s accusations that Senator Okpebholo had issued threats, arguing instead that the governor’s remarks were stern warnings against misinformation.
Furthermore, the APC defended Governor Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, from attacks by the PDP’s spokesperson, Chris Nehikhare. “Itua has done more to restore dignity to state communication in two months than PDP did in eight years,” Igbinigie said.
The party urged the PDP to cease what it called a campaign of “malicious lies” and focus instead on its collapsing political structure in the state. “Under Okpebholo, Edo State is witnessing a rebirth. Roads are being built, salaries are paid, and institutions are being revived,” the statement emphasized.
The APC ended the statement with a warning: “The PDP should expect to be met with uncompromising truth—sharp, factual, and devastating to their delusions.”
